ZOFIA SAWANIEWSKA-MOCHOWA

Dr hab. Zofia Sawaniewska-Mochowa, born on 16^th of September, 1953 in Meilunai (Lithuania), Associate Professor of Linguistics of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Ph.D. thesis – 1986, University of Warsaw, Ph.D. dissertation – 2003, Institute of Slavic Studies; author of 2 books, coauthor of 2 books and author of approximately 60 scientific articles, essays and reviews; conducted extensive research on the linguistic and cultural heritage of the gentry (szlachta) from the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania in cooperation with Associate Professor Anna Zielińska (Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Slavic Studies). Associate Professor Sawaniewska-Mochowa has worked often in Lithuanian archives researching manuscripts, letters and memoirs. She also researches the manuscripts of the 19^th century translational dictionaries; scientific interests: dialectology, local dialects and regional variants of Polish, the sociolect of the descendants of Lithuanian gentry, history and language of the former North-Eastern Borderlands of Poland (contemporary territory of Lithuania), sociolinguistics, ethnolinguistics.
