Katedra Lingwistyki Kulturowej i Socjolingwistyki

is Full Professor of the Slovene language at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor. In 1987 she obtained a degree in the Slovene language and literature at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, where she also completed her M.A. (1991) and Ph.D. (1995) in the Slovene language.  Her research focuses on Slovene lexicology, in particular word-formation, lexical semantics and phraseology. Her bibliography consists of more than 400 works. She has published her research in more than 30 independent chapters of monographs and in more than 40 scientific articles in relevant domestic and international scientific journals.  Her publications include four scientific monographs: Contributions to Slovene lexicology (1999), Word Family Dictionary of the Slovene Language: Test Volume for Entries in B (2004), Complex Words in Slovene between Dictionary and Text (2010), Interjections in Slovene (2014), and three professional monographs: When flowers speak to the linguist (2008), This is better (2008),  and  Interjections in Slovene at the Intersection of Oral and Sign Language (2014) (the last two in co-authorship with Ljubica Podboršek). 

She regularly presents the results of her research in scientific conferences in Slovenia and abroad. She has been a visiting  lecturer at the following institutions:  the University of Klagenfurt (2001), the University of Zagreb (2003), the University of Graz (2006, within Socrates/Erasmus exchange), the Polish Academy Podlaska, Siedlce (2009). Since 2006 she has been a member of the Slavic Word Formation Committee as part of the International Committee of Slavists (ICS) and since 2013 a member of the Commission for Sociolinguistics ICS.

She was the president of the Slavic Society of Maribor (1998–2002),  the deputy head of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts (2002–2007),  the coordinator  of the Bologna reform of study programs and the co-author of the Bologna of the third-cycle program of Slovene studies – Sinhronija (2006–2008), the head of the Commission for the Evaluation of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor and a member of the Commission for the Evaluation of the University of Maribor (2010–2014),  the head of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts, a reviewer of basic, applicative and postdoctoral projects and mentorships of the young Researcher for linguistics, a member of a temporary body of the Slovene Research Agency (ARRS), a member of several review boards and a mentor of two young Researcher (2011–12).
